Her: I wish I could...

1. Screenprint. Although I've spent five years in art school, I've never taken a class on screen printing. The process seems very long and technical, however the results are so beautiful. Take a look at this amazing video that shows the process of screenprinting. (Found via SwissMiss).

2. Letterpress. Similar to screenprinting, letterpress is another craft that has me fascinated. I love love love the look of letterpressed greeting cards and posters. Unfortunately it is a hobby that requires a bit of an investment in money and space - neither of which I am rolling in at the moment. In my third year of art school I had the pleasure of visiting a very respected letterpress artist, Jim Rimmer, in his home studio. Sadly he passed away this year. Here is a beautiful video about him and his work.

3. Dance. I've always been a little bit awkward, and have never been able to dance very well. I would actually love to take some classes (for very, very beginner adults) in some sort of funky dance. Even belly dancing could be fun!

Her: Wish List

With my birthday a few weeks away (June 5) I figured it might be a wise idea to post some things that I have been eying lately. It worked out quite well when I posted about how much I wanted this and ended up getting it as a graduation present from Him's family!

A picnic basket. Lately I have been thinking about how much fun it would be to gather up the husband and the dogs and go for a lovely picnic in the big park at the end of our street! Of course, to do it in style I am in need of a picnic basket stuffed with colourful cups, plates, cutlery, and other goodies. A vintage basket and accessories would make it triple awesome.

 

 

Homelove by Megan Morton. I can't seem to track this book down at my local book store. I'm really in to home decor lately and would love to see all of the inspiring things that I know are hiding between these pages.

A jewelry box. Vintage would be wonderful, but most of the vintage one's that I have seen are stained or just not looking too hot. I need one to hold all of my goodies, so it has to be a pretty good size. I'm trying to clear off all the clutter on my dresser. Bonus points if it has a ballerina in it :)

 

 

A retro manual typewriter in a fun colour. My dream (because I'll never be able to afford it) typewriter is the Red Olivetti Valentine. Sexy.

 

 

A cake stand with dome. They're just so pretty!

I also collect vintage pyrex, milk glass mugs with fun designs, embroidered throw pillows, and illustrations of girls with black hair.

Her: Little Bit - Lykke Li cover

I adore this video. This girl has some serious talent. Her voice is so beautiful, and I also love the lighting and colours in the video. Amazing. Although I am an artist my musical talent is almost non-existent. I am so jealous of people that can sing.

Her: Wishlist

Things are a bit tight budget wise right now as I finish up school, as I'm not sure how long it will be until I get a job or start generating income from dong freelance work. However, if I had some extra cash lying around these are the things I'd be putting in my shopping cart.

This In-Motion Clock from Anthropologie is spectacular. It would be beautiful in a kitchen. And it swivels!

I've always dreamed of owning my own dress form. Not that I sew clothes, but it would just be so pretty sitting in a corner. Although this one from Urban Outfitters is lovely, I would really like a vintage one.

Home Love by Megan Morton. Him and I will probably be looking for a new home in the next year or two, and we are looking forward to really designing a place to reflect our personalities. Megan Morton is an interior design genius, and I'm sure this book would be full of oodles of inspiring things.

I collect pop-up books, and my collection is calling out for Popville. This book fold out in to a town! So cool!

I've had these adorable Tattoo Dolls bookmarked for a long time now, but I'm still loving them. They totally remind me of Him and I (with far less tattoos of course).

I've got gluten-free, soy-free, vegan cinnamon buns about to go in the oven and I can't wait to see how they turn out. I made them from scratch with yeast and a rolling pin and everything! It's been so long since I've had a cinnamon bun... I may just eat all 12 of them in one sitting!

Him: Joy Division

Lately I've talked about music with friends and co-workers a few times and most of them have never heard of Joy Division. I was pretty surprised because I don't really think of them as being an obscure band. Although there last album released in 1980. 

Like many other artists, lead singer Ian Curtis ended his own life; on the eve of their first North American tour. He suffered form epilepsy and depression. He would sometimes have seizures while performing. If you've never heard of them or only know about their more well known songs do yourself a favor and take a better look at one of my favorite bands.

I thought Joy Division was a current band! Ha... shows how little I know about music. I didn't even know you liked them. Perhaps we could start listening to this in the car rather than our Niko Case CD for the millionth time!

Her: Anthropologie Wake-Up Retreats

I was browsing the home decor items on Anthropologie and I came across a collection of images called Wake-Up Retreats. Look at the amazing sets the products are on; It looks like they're made of cardboard!

If I could have any job in the world, it just might be designing the window displays and art directing photo shoots for Anthropologie.

I have one month left of University, so I am stressed and working none stop on projects for my portfolio.

It's 1:48AM. I'm scanning illustrations for a brochure about puberty that I am making for an assignment, watching Jewel of The Nile, and the puppies are snuggled up beside me, snoring.

 

My friends are picking me up at 6:45AM for school. That's in five hours. I think it's time for bed.

Her: Ira Glass on Storytelling

We were shown this video during a lecture by one of my teachers today, and it actually made me cry. Ira describes exactly what I have been feeling lately. It's five minutes long and worth a watch, especially if you're a creative person.

Her: Children's Books

I love children's books. I will never be too old to enjoy them. I have a small collection of pop-up books, but am hoping to expand my collection and introduce more books by artist's that I respect. Here are the top books on my wish list.

I own My Granny's Purse and it is one of my favourite books. It is so fun and original. I would love to own My Mommy's Tote, and My Grandpa's Briefcase too.

I adore the work by Oliver and currently only own one of his books, The Incredible Book Eating Boy. I would be thrilled to have any of his other works.

 

 

This is his newest book, The Heart and the Bottle, which just came out this month.

Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan

I would also love his other books; The Arrival, The Red Tree, and The Lost Thing.
